The Minister of Business Sector is discussing with an Egyptian-French consortium the establishment of two stations to generate electricity from solar energy.
Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Public Enterprise Sector, met with a delegation from
Orascom Construction and the French company (Engie) working in the field of generating electricity and new and renewable energy using solar cells and wind farms headed by Jeroen Vergot, Head of Business Development in North Africa, and Hans Bruns, Construction Manager of the Red Sea Wind Energy Company. and Engineer Ihab Mahaoud, General Manager of Orascom Construction.
The meeting dealt with possible opportunities and aspects of cooperation in the field of renewable energies, especially the generation of electricity from solar energy, and they discussed the establishment of two stations to generate electricity from solar energy: the first to serve the aluminum complex in Nagaa Hammadi, and the second to serve the new project for aluminum production, which is scheduled to be established in the Safaga region, in coordination with Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.
Dr. Mahmoud Esmat explained that the project comes within the framework of projects to develop and restructure Egypt Aluminum Company, that giant industrial edifice, by modernizing and rehabilitating the current smelter in Nagaa Hammadi to increase production capacity to 320,000 tons annually, and establishing a new factory with a capacity of 600,000 tons annually, in addition to A project to produce “alumina” from bauxite ore, with the aim of securing supply chains for the current smelter and future expansions, and adding new products and industries such as foil and rims.
